FOUNDER

RODRIGO GUTIERREZ

Corialent

12 years ago, Rodrigo decided that the Coca Colas of the world shouldn’t be the only ones who get to have all the fun in the advertising industry. He was sick of all the dull, corporate, navy blue and white B2B work out there. Business people are people too. Corialent specializes in B2B marketing that doesn’t suck. And they want to get the rest of the industry drinking that delicious KoolAid.

Manager Training

New manager training is an ongoing formal development course for new managers in an organization. To be a successful manager, managers must possess certain essential skills, traits and knowledge. These skills are needed not only by new managers but by experienced managers as well. In fact, some of the best managers in the world started out as assistant managers before advancing to more senior positions in their companies.

In most businesses today, managers still play an important role, even though they may be paid as employees instead of managers. This is because most organizations still hire them to perform specific managerial functions. Because there are still managers, organizations continue to develop management training programs for new and existing managers. There is also a need for organizations to develop effective leadership skills to motivate and inspire subordinates to perform their roles to the best of their capability. To ensure that everyone is on the same page, management training programs provide relevant and applicable training for management as a whole.

For new managers, the primary focus of management training needs to be on broadening their knowledge. In this way, the manager will be better equipped to understand how other employees function within his or her firm. By gaining this type of understanding, the manager can also empower other employees to become better team players. It has been proven that effective managers have the ability to build cohesive teams that bring about positive overall results for the organization.

A key aspect of effective manager training should be building up individual contributor capabilities. Individual contributor capability refers to an individual's ability to contribute to the success of the firm. Most people are talented in some area, but not all people are equally capable of performing in a given job. Some people are natural leaders, while others are good managers. A good manager must know how to identify and work with individuals who have the potential to become effective leaders.

Once individual contributor capabilities have been identified, a manager must then focus on improving interpersonal skills. Interpersonal skills include communication, verbal skills, leadership, assertiveness, and empathy. These are simply the skills that managers need to interact with individuals on a regular basis. When a manager understands how to communicate effectively and listen carefully to how his or her employees think, new managers need to know how to encourage employee retention.

The third area that new manager training focuses on is developing an effective succession plan. The first manager usually takes on the largest role in an organizational change, since this individual is usually responsible for laying down the vision and direction for the entire company. In addition, this position also determines the level of employee turnover that occurs within the company. In order to retain employees, managers must implement a succession plan that focuses on attracting high quality leaders while minimizing the amount of turnover that occurs through natural age and retirement.

The fourth topic that manager training needs to cover is inclusive workforce planning. In these days of increasing fragility within the workplace due to terrorist acts, natural disasters, and other disasters, it is becoming increasingly important for businesses to create a well-trained, highly skilled, and inclusive workforce. This can be accomplished through targeted training as well as development. Specific courses that address inclusive workforce planning can be designed by a business that specializes in occupational health and safety, or any other related field. Some businesses offer online management training, as well.

In the last few years, many companies have begun to use short-term mentoring programs to introduce workers to the inner workings of the company over the course of several weeks. These programs often last between one and five weeks. During this time, the new employee is given the opportunity to gain valuable experience in various areas of the business and is shown the ropes by experienced supervisors. This experience provides the new manager with the skills necessary to perform the essential managerial functions. Managerial development is an extremely important managerial skill that must be included in the toolbox of every long-term manager.
